Remembering My Past

I used to attend UIS, but college is too stressful when you have poor vision along with cerebral palsy. When I originally applied for college, my mom and I didn't even think that I'd have a hard time. We weren't even thinking that there might also be some accessibility issues that might get in the way of my trying to be as successful as I possibly could. During the three years, I tried being a college student- between UIS here in Springfield and Roosevelt University in Chicago, I took a reduced course load- except for when I attempted to take a full course load at UIS. Unfortunately that didn't go well, as four courses was just way too much for me to handle- considering that the textbooks were extremely heavy, and my disability limits the amount of weight I can actually carry safely. I was, however, able to just try it to see if college was actually going to work out for me. I was able to get involved in an activity that I really enjoyed participating in, and that kind've took my mind off of just how stressed out school was making me. Being a member of the Blue Crew at UIS was awesome. My teammates didn't mind that I had a disability. They just liked me for who I am.
